The marriage ties

Do you know "Izumo Taisha"?  It is one of the biggest and oldest shrine in Shimane prefecture.  Some people may be wrong about the name of the shrine, however, the official name is "Izumo Oyashiro".  In the shrine, Okuninushi, the god of nation-building, is enshrined and the Japanese people treasure the God.  In addition, this shrine is also famous as a "marriage ties".  This is called "en-musubi" in Japan and it means connecting some ties.  If you pray in the shrine, it can strengthen not only love but also other good connections.  Actually, it is said that gods from all over Japan will gather here in October in lunar calendar and have a meeting of the ties and harvest.  I like the Izumo myths very much because they are so interesting and mysterious.  I often read these myths when I was a child.  Of course, I like "Izumo Taisha", too!  It is magnificent and has mystical beauty.  If you have not been there, please visit!

By the way, the reason why I introduced this shrine this time is because today is the "Marriage ties Day".  It comes from a season of the God's meeting and a play on words.  There is a long tradition of believing in and cherishing the destiny in Japan.  Some may think that it is childish, but I like this old familiar customs.  Wouldn't it be nice if destiny really existed?
