The First Love

"まだあげ初めし前髪の

林檎のもとに見えしとき

前にさしたる花櫛の

花ある君と思ひけり"

This is a part of the poem "Hatsukoi (The first love)" written by Toson Shimazaki.  He was one of the most popular poets and this poem was his most famous work.  As the title suggests, it describe the first love.  To put it simply, "I was captivated by the mature girl under the apple tree.  It was as if flowers have bloomed in her hair and she was as beautiful as a flower comb in your hair."  I like this poem very much because it is so cute and romantic.  This poem has continuations, so if you are interested, please check it out!

By the way, the reason I introduced this poem today is because today is "The First Love day".  It was set to commemorate the publication of this poem on this day in 1896.  There is no special events, but why don't you look back on your first love memories?
