The Day of Persimmons

"Kaki kueba kane ga naru nari Horyu-ji".  It is a famous Japanese haiku, a short poem of seventeen syllables, and it was written by Shiki Masaoka who was also famous haiku poet.  The meaning of this haiku is when I eat a persimmon, the bell is tolled at Horyu-ji Temple.  Horyu-ji Temple is one of the Japanese famous building, so if you are interested, please visit there!

Then, the reason I introduced this haiku is that today is "The day of persimmons".  This day comes from the day this haiku was written.  Don't you think it is an interesting reason?

By the way, people have enjoyed eating the persimmons for a long time in Japan.  Of course, I like them, too!  They are rich in vitamin C, so it is good for your health and beauty.  Moreover, they are effective for a hangover.  And they are so delicious!!  So, why don't you eat persimmons this autumn?
